My wife and I went to see Quantum of Solace this afternoon, and this ad was played before the film began. It struck me as being a very effective marketing instrument - I wanted to go sign up after seeing it.
In the past, guardsmen were often derided as "weekend warriors." Watching this ad made me consider that, because of the two wars in which the United States has been engaged for the last seven years, many of these people are combat veterans. That fact belies the marketing pitch the Guard used when I was in college, i.e. one weekend a month, two weeks per year.
